Illness

Summer Camp Health Protocol: Fever, COVID-19, and Lice

At camp, keeping everyone safe, healthy, and having fun is our top priority! To help us all enjoy a smooth and happy summer, we’ve put a few simple health guidelines in place. These are just preventative steps to make sure small issues don’t turn into big ones—and to keep everyone feeling their best!

Here’s what to expect if a camper isn’t feeling 100% during the day, and how we handle common things like fever, COVID-19 symptoms, or lice:

1. Fever

  • A temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher means a camper needs some rest.
  • We’ll call home and make sure they’re comfortable until pickup.
  • Campers can come back after 24 hours fever-free without medication.

2. COVID-19

  • If a camper isn’t feeling well with COVID-like symptoms, we’ll play it safe:
    • Isolate, contact home, and send home for rest.
  • If they test positive:
    • Stay home for 5 full days from the start of symptoms.
    • They can return on Day 6 if symptoms are improving and there’s no fever for 24 hours.
    • Masks are encouraged through Day 10 after a positive test.
  • We keep things clean with lots of handwashing, sanitizing, and outdoor time!

3. Lice

  • If lice are found, we’ll notify you right away and send your camper home for a quick treatment.
  • They can return just 24 hours later, once treated.
  • We’ll check them when they come back to make sure they’re all set!
  • Preventative tips: tie back long hair, and avoid sharing hats or brushes.

Thanks for helping us create a safe, healthy space where kids can laugh, play, and make the most of summer!
